Selecting a block of e mails to delete.

Go to solution

Can anyone tell me how I delete emails in a block? I am using an Apple Mac.

I have used the check box to select an e mail at the top of the block I want to delete but (following advice I have read else where)  I then use the shift key and try to scroll down. However, it does not let me select any e mails further down in order to delete a block of selected e mails. This happens both when e mails are in date order or ordered by sender.

I can select a block by checking each e mail individually but with so many to delete it is becoming very frustrating doing it this way.

Many thanks for any help

I'm on Windows. I highlight the first email to be deleted, then hold down the shift key and highlight the last email to go, all those inbetween are then highlighted and can be deleted in one go. I don't know if this will work for you.

Thanks. I had tried doing that but it just doesn’t work when using my Apple i mac desktop. It’s very frustrating. Hoping there is someone else in the Community who uses Apple and can sort this issue for me.

Hi @JEC57

Thanks for coming here.

On Webmail it is only possible to delete 50 at a time.

Another option is to use an email client/app which will usually have the option to ''Delete All''.

Thanks Katie

I’ll look into whether the BT e mail App is an option.
Can I just clarify, when you say you can only delete 50 at a time is that by selecting 50 emails by clicking the check box of each email individually or is there a quicker way to highlight 50 e mails?

Thanks

Jane

Re: Selecting a block of e mails to delete.

If you want to delete multiple emails try the following.

If you hold down the shift key then tick the box to the left of the first email you want to delete in the list of emails then scroll down using the scroll bar on the right hand side or use the PgDown key and tick the last email you want to delete then release the shift key. It will select all the emails in between. You can then click delete or drag and drop them into the Trash folder.

Thanks.

I noticed your advice was to hold the shift key and then select the first and last e mails in the block.

This has worked!

I was highlighting the first e mail and then holding the shift key. Only issue I have is that this works when my e mails are in date order but not when ordered by sender. Still, some progress made this way, so thank you.

It works fine for me in both date order and sender order. No idea why it won't work for you unless you are trying to select too many. If I remember correctly it will only allow about 200 to be selected at a time.

It works when in date order, but definitely not working when ordered by sender/from. Not trying to delete too many, just can not select more than one at a time. I'm using web mail rather than the BTmail app.

But thanks for the help to get then deleted in blocks when in date order.
