Is anyone experiencing a sudden increase in spam?

Good morning @Mamyrie09 😊
What sort of spam have you noticed coming through here, and is this going into your spam folder, or your main inbox?
Peter
Thanks for picking up this query Peter.
The emails goes directly to my spam folder.
Normally the numbers are quite small i.e. less than 10 per day.
I have seen 20+ emails on a daily basis.
Kind regards
Monica
Thanks @Mamyrie09!
Does there seem to be any pattern to the emails you're receiving?
It's a good sign that these are going to the right place rather than your main inbox, but it could possibly have come from a website / service you've registered for recently, too.
Peter
The spam emails are a mix of the usual culprits e.g. virus software providers (such as McAfee), M&S, Halfords, Netflix, Shein, and BT Support (?!). All have spam email addresses (auto-produced). I have not visited these websites online.
Kind regards
Monica
Cheers @Mamyrie09 , this certainly doesn't sound like anything to be concerned about as if they're going into the spam folder the filter is doing its job!
Certain senders and subjects will be filtered automatically and never hit your inbox, but some things will occasionally still come through.
If you do spot these kind of emails coming into your regular mailbox though, you can find information on how to flag these as spam and create rules in our guide here.
Just as one last thing too, if you're spotting emails that appear to specifically phishing attempts, you can highlight this with us by forwarding them to phishing@bt.com.
Peter
Thanks Peter!
I will definitely forward them on.
Kind regards
Monica
@Peter_W I have recently also been getting loads of the same spam as @Mamyrie09 . I have had up to 43 in two days. I never open them just delete all in one go.
It's amazing how many free prizes I've won and parcels waiting to be delivered.🤣..
I could very well be generalising here and some might even think I'm being unfair to BT as far as their email provision is concerned, but it seems I've read far too many complaints about customers getting loads of spam email. I think one possibly has to accept that using a free email provider, you may well be exposed to far more spam than if you subcribe to a provider. I do indeed pay for my email, have done since 2019. I've had less than a handful of spam emails in the last 18 months. I've personally not used an ISP email provider for over 10 years. Each to their own though and I get it that most folks don't want to pay to use email, but perhaps customers who do, should accept that a free service might not go to the same lengths overall to provide the best service.
