Hello
Has anyone else started to receive emails where the sender's information is totally blank. By which I mean TOTALLY blank, missing, nothing there at all.
It's annoying because one can't hover with the mouse to see the sender, nor can you block the sender on the More Actions dropbox. All you can do is move the emails and delete it. I'm 99.99% sure that these are all spammers, so I delete them.
However I am somewhat puzzled and annoyed. Why do the BT servers accept such emails for transmission, if the sender's information has been deleted or adjusted in some way so that, if it is present, the recipient is deliberately prevented from seeing it? I would have thought, if BT is serious about combating scammers, that this would be an easy validation check for their servers to perform, before accepting or rejecting the email for onward processing.
It is most likely the email has come from a spammer/scammer and they are hiding their email address in the senders address box.
The email address that is shown can be anything that the scammers want it to be as you obviously know because you have used the "hover over" to see the "true" email address. The email address you see is not what the spam filters look for. The filters use the headers etc to see if it meets the criteria of being classed as spam or not and as you are probably aware this is not an exact science so some spam emails can still get through.
If you log onto your email account and select the email using a single click to place a tick in the box on the left of the email then go to the "More" button in the menu bar you can then select "View Source" and it should open a drop down box with all the details of the email including its email address.
Hello gg30340
Many thanks for your response.
I will try the procedure that you suggest the next time that I receive one of these emails.

I had the same problem. You can't set up a blocked sender with a blank.
Yes you can.
You will need to enter the email or domain into your "Blocked Senders" list manually.
Click on the "More" button in the menu bar at the top of the email list. Scroll down the drop down box and click on "View Source". This should open a page that show you all the information about the email.
Look through that information and you should find numerous references to the email address that sent you the email.
Once you have that information you need click on your username at the top right hand side select "Settings" then click on "Mail" in the left hand column and select "Blocked Senders". The Blocked Senders list will open.
In the email box click "Add" and enter the email address or the domain that you found when you searched through the source. Be aware that if you block the Domain it will block all emails from that Domain so if it happens to be an email address fron say the gmail domain. All gmail emails to your account will be blocked.
Once you have done that you will find that you have just wasted about ten minutes of your life because Spammers are constantly changing their sending email address and domain and as a result it really is pointless trying to block them.
The "Block Senders" list is only of use to block genuine email addresses that you no longer wish to receive emails from.
When spam emails arrive in your email account you are best just to delete it. Do not open it because all you are doing is alerting the spammer that they have found an active email account and more spam is bound to follow..

I am referring to a blank sender and a blank domain. The blocked options are greyed out in the email. If you try putting just space in the settings it is not accepted. There has to be something in the field. The rule is much easier and means you don't have to go looking for the sender in source. We used to get blanks on a daily basis. None now.
I know they are greyed out. That is why you have to do as I said and search the source for the email address and domain and then enter them manually into the blocked senders list.
What's wrong with the rule that means you don't have to search for sender ?
I never said there was anything wrong with the rule!
I was explaining how to use the "Block Sender" list if there was no email address showing, which you said could not be done.
I was saying you couldn't use the "Block Sender" or "Block Domain" tabs in the email or the "Block Sender" in settings.
The rule will apply to all Blank emails and avoid looking for the Sender in each email.
