GIven the numbers of transfers to EE there are very few posts about their email accounts being a problem because of the transfer.

Re: What happens to my BT Email if I move from BT to New EE?

Dear Nick,

Your excellent post is very clear though sadly it seems that EE telephone guiders have not been informed. I had an attractive online offer to migrate to EE but I wanted to double check that my existing btinternet addresses would indesed be fully accessible at no extra cost. The EE telephone salesperson was adamant that I would have to pay £7 extra (which would have knocked the economics of the offer on the head) or I could access them through webmail only (which is unbelievably clunky if you use multiple addresses). I made absolutely no progress and  for the moment I am staying with BT Internet who gave me a new plan nearly as good as the EE offer.

May I ask if you could use your influence with your BT and EE management contacts to get the EE training sorted out so everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet.

Regards

Hi there @phsutton.

Welcome back to the Community 😊

With this one, the information they've advised you is correct for customers moving over to alternative providers, but as Nick highlighted in this post, it's different when it's EE.

I'm going to send you over a private message in a few moments, and we can take a closer look into your experience from there.

Peter

Re: What happens to my BT Email if I move from BT to New EE?

Nick your reply looks very helpful but could you point to where this is spelled out in the contract I would be agreeing if I moved from BT to EE. I know you are a "Community Manager" but when push comes to shove BT will fall back on the contract. Unless your post is legally binding on BT and EE then I need to see the words in the contract. I currently never use the BT website for emails as it is terrible. I only ever access my emails via Apple devices so losing that ability would be unacceptable to me. Having to pay extra to keep my access via Apple devices would kill the economics of the deal being offered to me by EE and I would be better off moving away from the BT family of companies.

@Magrox

Have a look through the forum and let us know how many posts you find complaining that what is stated about keeping BTMail is not true.

If it was not true, given the number of people who transfered to EE I'm sure you will find more than zero.

In any event you do not need to move to EE. It would be your choice to do so.

Re: What happens to my BT Email if I move from BT to New EE?

I want to see the words in the contract. Nothing else is real. I have tried checking on the BT website under their T&C but for some reason the relevant section will not download. Currently BT have me over a barrel. I cannot have a cheaper contract unless I move to EE. EE don't do email accounts so I am left relying on BT to keep my email accounts and their access unchanged. As I will no longer be paying BT I have no contract with them so they can do what they like with my emails. I had the same experience with my Freeserve email account. It was taken over by Orange who became EE and somewhere along the line I was told they were killing my account and I lost all my emails. Writing this post has reminded me why have I a severe objection to having a contract with EE.

Re: What happens to my BT Email if I move from BT to New EE?

I doubt you will get anything about it in a contract.

It is BT that has said it won't change. Your contract will be with EE.

Given that since 2022 BT no longer offer the free add on email to new customers it seems that BT may stop its email service at some point in the future so you may not have a choice.

It might be worth changing to a free non ISP email service such as gmail. It may be a bit of a pain doing that but at least you won't be tied to any ISP because you don't want to pay for an email service.

Unfortunately you cannot access the settings from the BT page as broadband is blanked out (you only have the option to purchase or set up a plan).
