I left BT for EE last October and am still able to access my btinternet email through Thunderbird.
That can and will change at some point. Your email account will be downgraded to BTMail Basic which can not be used with an email client such as Thunderbird and can only be used with webmail.
See the first post. You only lose premium access to your BT email addresses if you move to an ISP other than EE.

My mistake, I misread the post from @smartcall88 and never saw that the poster moved to EE where you do keep your BTMail Standard email account which does not get downgraded to BTMail Basic.
Thanks everyone. The 1st post was late 2023 - as the statement in the video I received is very recent I was/am concerned BT may have changed the guidance?!
The information in the moderator's first message is correct and still relevant.
There have been no posts on this forum from any person who has moved to EE or from the moderators contradicting that information.
Given the responses to your post can you please let us know the mechanism in which the email address stays as @btinternet.com, thank you

You do not need to do anything.
If you move to EE nothing changes as regards your email accounts. You logon in exactly the same way as you do now and you manage the email accounts through your MyBT in the same way as now. You do not use MyEE to do that.
Thanks for getting back to me so soon, I am still a little apprehensive, but sounds like we have to bite the bullet, my wife has a btinternet.com address as well as part of my package I tryst this also remains in place?
Yes. All the email accounts that were set up under your BT Broadband account will still be able to be accessed as that are now.
further to the Sage's advice, that is my experience having moved to EE last October. You don't have to do anything different in any regard.
