BT email logon not working - 16.07.2025 [bmx_2008 error code per Chrome browser]

Go to solution

Looks like there is a major outage on BT email this morning per Downdetector [16.07.2025]

I am getting an error page with the Chrome browser code bmx_2008 trying to access BT email via desktop; mobile access seems to be unaffected at the moment.

Tried the BT helpdesk - as usual, about as helpful as a chocolate teapot - at least a 20 minutes wait to speak to advisor is I would like to hold. Don't know why I bothered.

Can't see any announcements from BT anywhere on the matter. Does anyone have any updates or ideas when BT are going to get it sorted?

I did get to commun

icate with an adviser who indicated that no-one had told his team about it either and to try again in 4-24 hours (!).  Said it was to do with maintenance overloading the server, but that sounded like a stock excuse.   The issue, looking at the hiroglyphics in the search panel, is something to do with password recognition.

Thanks .

Why I am not surprised at that - a major BT email outage is flagging up on downdetector and BT doesn't even message its own email advisers to let them know.  And I am paying £56 pcm for this "service" [I use the word advisedly].  One wonders who is running BT email this week - Donald Duck or Mickey Mouse.

I just tried texting the BT help desk and the text contact froze about 5 minutes - typical. Did they call me back? Don't be silly.

I suppose it is a case of wait and see when it clears. Anyone like to hazard a guess what the chances are that BT will offer me a discount on my monthly subscription for this loss of access. My guess is zero chance.
