BT 4600

My elderly parents have the BT4600. When they receive a call the base rings but the handset does not and I want to correct this 

I have assumed that the correct thing to do would be to follow 'Turn handset tones on/off' The User guide says to go to settings then Handset tones. Handset tones is not one if the options to choose.

I'd appreciate any help you can give

Handset Tones would relate to the keypad. You want ringer settings as per P.67 of the manual.

Thanks for your reply but that doesn't make the handset ring

Maybe it's been accidentally set to Do not disturb?
