BT Full Fibre Broadband & Alarm Dialer System

Hello,

I very recently changed my home broadband from ADSL copper (Plusnet) to BT full fibre.

The fibre broadband / Wi-Fi together with the new BT TV box (which replaced a Sky Q box) is working fine.

My DECT cordless phone answering machine plugs into the green socket labelled 'Phone' on the back of the new hub to be able to use VoIP to dial  / receive voice calls. This works fine.

The old BT Master Socket is no longer in use (as new connection goes via the new BT Hub router and fibre cable) and has been removed, with the incoming BT copper cable disconnected and removed with this socket.

We have a house alarm system that uses a Honeywell Informa Speech Dialer to notify us in the event of an alarm (by dialing pre-programmed mobile phone numbers and playing a recorded voice message). This dialer unit was connected to the BT master socket (hard wired) and used the copper PSTN for comms to dial out. Not sure if the dialer uses pulse or tone dialing, but when it dials out you can hear a series of 'bleeps'.

With the old copper connection gone, is there any way I can get the dialer to work using the new VoIP fibre connection?

Would I need to hard wire the cable from the dialer unit to a BT socket and then use a 'patch' cable (BT plug to BT plug) to connect to the green socket labelled 'Phone' on the back of the BT Hub (using a splitter to create two ports - one for the phone and one to connect to the BT socket?

I would rather not have to replace the speech dialer or the alarm system, as both work perfectly.

My understanding is the the dialer unit acts like a telephone and just dials out when it is triggered by the alarm panel. If the BT fibre supports Voice over IP then in theory this should work?

Also, the wire from the dialer unit is a 4 pair telephone cable. Which cables would I need to connect to the BT socket in order to work. Would it be just two?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

😊

Have you tried contacting your alarm company who have been aware of the changes to VOIP and see what advice they can give you

Re: BT Full Fibre Broadband & Alarm Dialer System

Your alarm dialer may well work once it’s connected to the hub provided it’s DTMF ( tone dialing) , many people to keep hard wired extensions usable after migrating to DV rewire the existing extension wiring from the hub rather than from the now redundant master socket , but extension sockets have always been the consumers responsibility ,  same as it was before the migration to DV .

Search ‘Voice re injection’ which may  bring up some help , but in essence a patch lead required between the SH2 phone port and an existing phone socket , and at the master socket , providing the extensions were correctly provided, remove the consumer panel from the NTE5 master socket to isolate the internal wiring from the now unused external copper line ( as it  may still have 50v on it )

This shouldn’t be beyond the scope of a DIYer or employ a suitable electrician, network cable technician, ex telephone tech etc to do this .
