I’m posting this as I’m completely outraged on behalf of my elderly parents and hope that a moderator can help ASAP. Out of the blue, they received a call to say that someone had requested their phone number. In the space of a couple of weeks they received a letter to say their broadband was going to be disconnected as they hadn’t responded to the request. My dad says he had two calls previous to this, both of which involved a BT representative requesting his name, address and bank details. He flagged this as sketchy so got off the call each time.
This somehow led to BT disconnecting my parents’ broadband out of the blue but stopping their phone line. Dad called to get reconnected and found that they had to get a new home phone number replacing the one they’ve had for over 40 years (and three homes). BT are refusing to give them their old number back and won’t get the broadband working until Tuesday for some inexplicable reason. What I don’t understand is how they have to wait to get reconnected and why they can’t get their phone number back. They pay all their bills on time and yet have no internet and the wrong phone number. Ridiculous.
Hi @Carterwins
Welcome to the community and thanks for posting.
Sorry to read of your parents experience, the phone calls described do sound suspect so I can understand your fathers concerns when he received them.
I've sent a private asking for some more information so we can look into this for you.
Thanks
Stuart
