I have a BT landline phone BT8500 with 4 handsets.
The handsets are all working fine.
The base unit has stopped automatically charging when the phone is put back on. The other 3 units for the handsets all wokr OK and charge OK.. All the other features on the base unit work perfectly well
What I have been doing for some time, is to keep checking the handset on the base unit and when it's low, is to swap the handsets.
Is there any way to sort this out???
I do have a spare base unit but worried I will lose all the stored contacts if I try to install it.
Are the contacts stored on the handsets or on the base unit?
If I de register the handsets from the faulty base unit, will they retain the stored contacts if I then register them on the new base unit?
Contacts are stored in the base unit, so you will lose them if you swap it. There is no way to extract contact lists either.
It's not clear from your post if the affected handset charges OK on one of the other charging stations? If it does then you know it's the terminals in the base at fault. Have a look at them & check for dirt or corrosion & clean if necessary. Also check that they are free to move.
If the handset doesn't charge on another station then again check the contacts on the base of the handset.
If still no joy the best way forward would probably be to just buy another charging station from Ebay & use that instead of the base unit.
Obviously remove power or batteries before attempting any cleaning.
