Broadband digital

Go to solution

BT changed me a week ago to Broadband digital, and I have hd problms since. I cannot get through to one local number witth the std cose 01263 .... I spent an hour on the phone this morning with BY faults who could find nothing wrong. BUT there is something wrong  I'm 80 yrs old and need to ensure I can contact a neighbor  if I am in trouble, and the numbe when dialled jut continualy rings. BT today asked me to plug the phone direct into the router, waited 2 minutes and re-dialled, it seemed to work but went to voiceail and then cleared down.    My internal phones are BT4600, one of them showd as handset number 2 as the neew digital phone also shws handset No 2.,  I have tried calling other numbers on the code of 01263..... and they seem to work.  I can get no sense out of the help desk and really need someone to sort ths out for me.  BT have me listed as vulnerable because I have had several strokes, and must be able to dial any number from my phones in the event of urgent help.  What can I do please, just getting no-where at the moment. It might be a problem with my system, but I don't know. The router has been restarted 3 or 4 times, all to no avail.  The person I am trying to contact tells me she is getting other calls, so what do I do.

Bit of a long shot. Is your number also an 01263 number and does the person you are calling have call blocking? If the answers are yes to both, I wonder if they have just entered your local number rather than the full code+number that you are now using to call them.

Both of us 01263, I need to ask the person concerned when I see them tomorroow if call blocker is on, BT said they had checked and it wasnot, just don't know. Totally frustrated.

In addition this problem has been going on since 20 May 2026
Other products affected
You may also experience problems with other services such as your Broadband whilst we fix your fault.
Today - Tue 26 May 2026 ---- Apart from trying the call no other problems, surely it doesn't take a wqeek to sort the problem.

Re: Broadband digital

Just to clarify, it works when dialling the full number with the area code, but doesn't when just calling the number without the area code?

e.g

  This works 01263 732XXX

but this does not work 732XXX

When moving to Digital Voice, local numbers now require the area code + the number to be dialled.

@AlanC4 Agreed you both have to dial full number, but has the other person entered your full number in their allowed list.

BT would have no knowledge of what is entered in a call blocking phone.

I know I have to use area code + number, and do dial it that way since change over.

That is not what I'm saying, I appreciate that you are aware of that. However, your friend needs to enter the numbers that are not blocked in a list, this is independent of dialling calls. Make sure your number has been entered in full in their allowed list.
