Call Protect, if a call is displayed as "nuisance" is it on the BT blocked list?

If an incoming call is displayed as "nuisance" is it on the BT Blocked list and will it go to Junk voicemail if I don't answer it?

Does Call Protect block the real number that the call originates from or just the spoof number being displayed?

If calls are identified as "nuisance" why does BT still connect them?

What are the criteria for flagging a Call as "nuisance"

Re: Call Protect, if a call is displayed as "nuisance" is it on the BT blocked list?

On Android at least, if you open the phone app and look at recent calls, you can  then scroll to the right most filter and it'll show you "Spam" and "Blocked".  Spam calls will cause your phone to ring, but if it's an unknown number, you'll just be informed it's probably a nuisance call.  Numbers blocked by your phone provider will not make your phone ring, but will be recorded, and you'll have received a message in the status bar, if it's really not spam, you can add them to your contacts and they'll come through!

Where it gets complicated is if you block someone and report it as spam, or someone does that to you!  While the issue is being investigated, the calls will ring for 2 seconds before hanging up, unless the recipient has added the caller to their contacts.  Investigations usually take less than a day, but obviously if it's a business phone, that can cause major issues.

Re: Call Protect, if a call is displayed as "nuisance" is it on the BT blocked list?

Thanks for the Info. but I'm really trying to get down to the nitty gritty of how Call Protect works or, more importantly why it doesn't! eg. When I tried to block a nuisance call I that received, I got a recorded message saying the number was already on my personal Blocked list which implies that BT block the Spoof number and not the actual number that the call originated from, so the Spammers can just keep ringing me.

For obvious security reasons not to assist scammers or others BT will not share any of the information regarding criteria etc.

Blocking numbers is a waste of time because scammers constantly spoof and change numbers they use.

You would be better getting a phone that lets you white list callers to those in your contacts list and numbers you want to let through and block all other calls.

Re: Call Protect, if a call is displayed as "nuisance" is it on the BT blocked list?

*I get reported as a nuisance caller, when after turning up to a job at 3am, there was no one on site.  So I called the emergency contact number I'd been given, and rather than answer the call  the person receiving it reported the call as a nuisance call!  I can't live without my phone, so everything went haywire until the following day when it was sorted out.

Not BT/EE but an ill-informed customer services rep actually told me I'd have to change my number, all I actually did was use a payg SIM for a day in my phones second SIM slot!

Well it does seem like the Mobile providers have resolved the issue better than BT Landline network. Although obviously its a pain if you get incorrectly flagged as a Spam/Nuisance caller!

Re: Call Protect, if a call is displayed as "nuisance" is it on the BT blocked list?

OK I get that if BT revealed the actual criteria it might be helpful to scammers, but they could say which of the following  statements is true.

A call is flagged as Nuisance because it is on the BT Blocked list.

A call is flagged as Nuisance simply because that number has never called your number before.

This would help Customers make an informed choice whether to answer or not.

Or you could decide that your self if it is a number you do not recognise or if you do decide to answer it be on guard and do not take anything at face value and just hang up if you are at all suspicious. That's what we used to do before we had caller display phones.

Re: Call Protect, if a call is displayed as "nuisance" is it on the BT blocked list?

I’ve checked all our “nuisance” calls for August and September.

None of them were in the blocked list prior to the call.

None of them have been added to it automatically.

All of them were nuisance calls as far as I remember.

I obviously don’t know what the criteria is, but it seems to be accurate enough to rely on.

Re: Call Protect, if a call is displayed as "nuisance" is it on the BT blocked list?

From your reply I'm assuming that the calls were not marked as nuisance (but they were) and they did not appear in your Personal Blocked list before or after the call was received. In which case Calls flagged as Nuisance probably are on BT's own Blocked list so I won't answer them in future.

Thanks for your help, Regards T2A
