Re: Can't get DV to work with new RJ11 extension cable to corded phone

@Anonymous Yes, the variants are probably an unnecessary complication.

You could PM the link to @Epona18 rather than posting it.

@licquorice

As a new member his PMs are disabled. That's presumably why his pic was quarantined. But the product ID should be enough to find it either online or in store.

Re: Can't get DV to work with new RJ11 extension cable to corded phone

@Epona18   Just to throw my 2p worth in as this seems to have become a bit of an on-going debate, I'd refer back to my original reply.

All the phone cables I've seen recently have the two centre pins on the RJ11 connected, pins 3 and 4.  Also, as someone said, it is the connections at both ends you really need to compare.  One end might be 'right' but is the other end?  (And the one in the picture isn't right as far as I can see).

At the end of the day, your best bet is to look at how it compares to the old cable.  Ignore the colours.  The electricity is colour-blind.  What pin is connected to what at the other end?  If it is the same as the old cable it should, of course, work.

I did warn you RJ11 standards are a movable feast.  How they are presented depends on what they are intended for.

Re: Can't get DV to work with new RJ11 extension cable to corded phone

Many thanks. I will look to order that cable. The new cable I had tried was definitely the newer crossover type from what I can gather and the old one doesn't look the same, so I assume it's straight. I'll try it. If not, I'll  just have to keep the old manky cable and wait till we upgrade the phone and everything is new and compatible. By the way, I'm a her not a him....the ID name is a clue. 🙂

Ah, so educated on phone wires but clueless about the Celtic goddess of wildlife and horses. 😀 No matter, my expertise is history and genealogy not wires and technology hardware... we all have out strengths and weaknesses. 😊

Re: Can't get DV to work with new RJ11 extension cable to corded phone

I was looking on Amazon and saw "Drut 5m BT to RJ11 4 Wire (431A) Male to Male UK Telephone Modem Lead Cable" and if wiring photos can be trusted(or not) then it looks like a similar wiring situation to my old cable. Is that compatible as 'straight' like the one I was pointed to on Currys? Only it's slightly cheaper and easier for me to order from Amazon and return if it's doesn't work out.

Re: Can't get DV to work with new RJ11 extension cable to corded phone

It's not clear from the description if that's straight or crossover. Assuming that it is straight, this item from Amazon is a crossover.

kenable 4 Wire BT Plug to RJ11 Crossover Telephone Cable 5m [5 metres

Order both and return whichever doesn't work

Which cable is in your pic, the old or the new? That's a straight cable so as I said previously, what you need depends on which cable that is.

You can't rely on pics when ordering, you need the description t specify whether it's straight or crossover.
