Can’t transfer landline number.

Go to solution

Hello

I have but landline and broadband at two separate addresses. Both in the same town about 400 metres apart.

  1. Office
  2. Home

Due to a downturn in work, I am giving up my office and plan to work from home.

I want to keep my office number and transfer it to my home.

I spoke to a BT support person and they said because my home line has been updated to a fibre and digital voice line and my office hasn’t… and apparently they are on different exchanges too, I cannot keep my office number and use it at home.

My business has been operational for around 25 years, so it’s pretty essential I keep my office number for obvious reasons.

My question is firstly, is there any suggested way around this?

Or if not, does anyone know about ‘porting’ and could this work?

Many thanks for any help or advice

Regards

Peter.

@Peterpaz1

This is just a customer to customer help forum, everyone here, including myself, are just customers.

The only BT Employees are the forum moderators.

If they are on different exchanges, then there is no way to transfer your number. Also, your office would be a BT Business number, and that would also prevent a transfer, as BT Business is totally separate to BT Residential.

Its also not permitted to use a residential line in connection with a business.

@Peterpaz1

This may be an option https://business.bt.com/moving-premises/

BT Business Cloud Voice should allow you to move your service to a new business connection which would be in addition to your existing residential line. That would seem the best solution if you must be able to transfer your number.

You would be in the same exchange area, so it should not be a problem.

Have you spoke to BT Business about Cloud Voice?

Cloud Voice uses dedicated IP phones which connect to your Internet connection.

You may be able to get more advice on the BT Business Forum.
