@Keith_Beddoe.

This sounds so much like me in many respects as I am now out of contract and currently still have my 700 mins and 17Mbps ADSL BB. I have two PAYG phones, one with O2 and the other with 1p Mobile. Also have a ZTE WiFi hotspot device with a Three loaded data SIM just for fun and for power outages which haven't occurred recently.

@HHGTTG

I like the fact that ADSL is backed up at the exchange. The HH4 here, is backed up with a UPS which also powers the BT4600 phone system.

When BT force the move to DV, it will be the case of swapping the HH4 for the SH2 which they will have to provide, to maintain the phone service.

Both the HH4 and the 4G connection are filtered by Pi-hole to remove most adverts and trackers, which would normally consume bandwidth and slow page loading.

Re: Cancel digital voice

I am about to change to a full fibre contract with BT. I currently have DV which I wish to now cancel. I have been told by the BT guide that I need to have DV until after the change over and that I can then cancel DV anytime after that. The contract I have been sent clearly states that DV is a 24 month contract.  I rang CS again who again told me that DV can be cancelled at anytime. Having read the advice on here I am now concerned that as the change over is after the 14 day cooling off period I will be stuck with DV for another 24 months. Any advice please.

If you are renewing your contract on move to FTTP I would ensure you renew contract broadband only and not broadband with phone. You will then not be able to make/receive calls on your home phone

Many thanks for the quick reply. I have asked for this to happen but was told it can’t be done on an open contract.

Hey @Paul2310.

Welcome to the BT Community Forums!

Your package shouldn't actually take effect until the Full Fibre has been installed and the connection has gone live, so this would be when the 14 day cooling off period would start.

It does seem odd that they weren't able to place a broadband only offer for the new connection though; was the existing digital voice connection still within a contract period?

Re: Cancel digital voice

Hi Peter,

Many thanks for the clarification regarding the cooling off period. Yes the existing DV contract is until Sept. The Guide told me the DV was needed for the change over to Full Fibre, not sure why or why the new contract had to include DV. Does this mean that after the change, I will have to cancel the new contract and start another one without DV or can BT just remove DV from the one I have just agreed to?

Re: Cancel digital voice

Thanks @Paul2310, this is a bit of a tough one as the option to upgrade to Full Fibre allows you to switch mid-contract with no fee, but does require the signing of a new contract once you switch too.

If the broadband and digital voice were both in contract until September, this is likely why they're struggling to go for a new order without it.

It could be worth asking if you can pay an early cancellation fee on the phone aspect, so that way we could place a fresh order for the broadband only Full Fibre.

 You're best of giving our customer care team another call so they can look at the specific details of your plan, and ensure we've reviewed all available options.

If anything is advised specifically, make sure to request that this is noted on your account for future reference, too.

Re: Cancel digital voice

Thanks again @Peter_W  for the advice. Called the customer care team again. Said they couldn’t do anything until the order has been closed. So have to wait until the changeover to full fibre has happened in a couple of weeks time. They also said they could then easily remove the DV part of the deal. As you advised I asked them to record on my account a note to that effect. Fingers crossed.

@Paul2310

would be good to get feedback if you manage to remove DV without ending existing contract - ending broadband with phone moving to broadband only - also if you needed to start new 24 month contract
