I fail to see how that can be the case. They are both carried by the same pair of copper wires, if one fails so does the other.

Re: Copper Landline

Thank you.  I am 700m from the cabinet. No idea where the exchange is located.

My connection is variable  - at best 20Mb - at worst less than 7Mb [download]  - upload make a snail look fast.   I currently have a direct landline to eanble voice in a power cut.

If we have a pewer cut there is no internet?

V grateful

What would you expect the copper to deliver as an internet connection?

700M from the cabinet with a good line should give about 30M-40M. If you have an aluminium cable, it could be anything.

@OBOBE  then you would need to provide power backup to the BT Smart Hub 2, a 12V supply is all that is needed.

Its not clear whether you have an ADSL or a VDSL connection as the speeds you quoted could be either, as ADSL can deliver up to 20Mbs.

If you are that close to the cabinet, then I would expect a much faster VDSL connection than 20Mbs unless you have a poor quality local cable.

Does the Vigor give the modulation type in the management page? If so, what is it?

How do you know what connection speed you are getting if you can't access the stats page in the Vigor?
