Digital Voice Adapter for BT Business Smart Hub 2

Go to solution

I am told by BT that the Digital Voice Adapter they offer free veto residential customers will not work with my Smart Hub 2.

Frankly I don't believe this can anyone confirm that I am wrong and BT are correct . I think they just want to sell me a more expensive option

Who is right me or BT

Re: Digital Voice Adapter for BT Business Smart Hub 2

I know the business version of the Smart Hub 2 does not support Digital Voice (DV), only the domestic version.  Business tend to use proper VoIP rather than the domestic DV service.  I would therefore assume the business version does not support the adapters either, but I'm not 100% certain, to be honest.

No doubt, someone will confirm or deny.

As far as I know the BT Business Hub 2 handles business telephony differently to residential telephony on the Smart Hub 2 , it’s not DV , it’s called Cloud Voice Express , and the in built DECT basestation in the residential router either disabled or not fitted in the business router , so the DV adapter (basically a DECT device) supplied on request to a residential telephone (Digital Voice ) customer, can’t be used , it’s an accessory for residential customers not a BT Business ones .

Thanks to WSH and iniltous. Clearly BT are right, so if I want to use my early Analogue phones I shall have to cough up!

I suppose the obvious question is why you want to take a business connection rather than a residential one , if taking a residential one , the SH2 with DV (and BT adapter) is supplied

@iniltous   If you look on Amazon etc. there are a lot of Smart Hub 2s for sale but the difference between the business version and the home version is often not made clear.  (Or indeed, even which model is actually being offered).  Calling both the "Smart Hub2" was not the best idea, and BT have made the same mistake with the hub 3.

Re: Digital Voice Adapter for BT Business Smart Hub 2

If the OP had bought a business hub themselves, assuming incorrectly it would work with DV and a DV adapter on their residential BT broadband service , you would imagine they will also still have  the original BT  SH2 , and could revert to using that , what’s more , if the OP had a residential tariff broadband and called to be supplied with DV adapter,  I doubt there would be any argument about BT supplying it , one would simply be dispatched  , perhaps the OP will confirm but it seems to me that for whatever the reason they bought a business tariff and were supplied with the business hub , and for some reason want a DV adapter even though they don’t have DV or a hub that  can deliver DV , if they bought a phone service with the BT Business broadband they will have Cloud Voice Express .
