Digital Voice & Broadband

After many weeks of issues with our telephone not being able to recive or make callsv we have finally been switched over to BT Digital Voice, we continue to have broadband with BT.

What don't understand is ...if our phone calls are now over the internet, as we have broadband, do we still need to have a contract that includes, or rather has the addition of telephone calls?

Is the phone over broad band or is it like a landline. Are we being forced to all get mobiles to make and receive calls Instead of the cabled handset on the side in the home.

Re: Digital Voice & Broadband

if you now have digital voice then your calls are over the internet VOIP.  you still need to pay to make/receive calls on your phone either PAYG or buy unlimited call package .  your contract currently is broadband with phone and having phone facility costs £3/5 per month.  you can recontract on Broadband only and save £3/5 pm and any call package costs but you no longer make/receive calls on home phone

These are not mutually exclusive, it can ( and is ) both , DV calls are over the internet ( it’s called IP , internet protocol telephony ) , and it’s like a landline , in that the number usually is geographically linked to your area (01***) and the bulling is the same as if you were still on PSTN , in my opinion calling a landline these days is a little redundant, you either take a telephone service with your broadband or you don’t , if you don’t you may save a couple of £’s ,
