Digital Voice and BT8500 phones

In a very underhand way BT have moved me to digital voice. Now I need some help if anyone out there could assist it would be very much appreciated.

I will need to set up the new hub. Does it have to go into the master socket or can it go into my second socket which is how I have my current hub connected?

Are the BT8500 phones compatible?

I have 3, the main base station and 2 other hand sets connected via the main base station, will all three still work or do I need one of the adaptor socket things or even two of them?

I rand BT and they did not know. I was told if I had any trouble call them......ummmmm.

Re: Digital Voice and BT8500 phones

Yes, they moved me 12 months ago.

If your old router worked through the extension then the new one should.  I’m not familiar with the BT8500 but I do use a Panasonic cordless system myself.  I just moved the base station phone plug from the wall socket to the green socket on the back of the router and rebooted the router.  As far as the phone goes, everything works just as it did before.

Re: Digital Voice and BT8500 phones

Hi @MOT

Assuming that you are on FTTC (not full fibre), you simply need to replace your current router with the Smart Hub 2. You can use the same socket and cable. DV is compatible with all current modern phones like the BT8500. Your choices will be Connect the BT8500 to the telephone socket in the back of the SH2, or request//order an DV Adapter and plug the BT8500 base station in that. All your BT8500 phones will work as normal.

Re: Digital Voice and BT8500 phones

Thank you very much VeteranISPUser

I'm going to do all this on Saturday pm so that I can be sure of not missing my football team game which kicks off at 12.30.

Also I can read up all the info I gather before doing the big switch and being more sure of what I am doing.

I'm not impressed with the bumph BT puts out to help you, more of a hinderance really. I did 36 years at BT and if I had given that type of service I would have been reprimanded.

Re: Digital Voice and BT8500 phones

Good morning VeteranISPUser,

Home hub 2 now working.

BT8500 base now conected.

I have tested for out going calls and incoming all is OK.

I have read some queries on this site about call guardian working with DV on the community, but finished up confused.

I have not purchased a  new DV phone nor have I requested one of those adaptors. Just using my BT8500 .

So will the call guardian work  as it did on land line?

Will calls be picked up by my BT8500 if I do not answer (because I have arthritis I have my phones set to the longest number of rings to allow me to get there) but if I fail to answer the calls goes to built in  answer machine?

Many thanks in advance.

Re: Digital Voice and BT8500 phones

My BT8500 works fine with no issues connected to the hub and the base unit sends data to any extra BT8500 phones

DV also has a free telephone answering system built in. If you want your BT8500 to continue to answer your phone them you'll want to set the DV answering system to the longest possible number of rings, and set your BT8500 to a bit less than that.
You can set the DV answering system number of rings by dialling 1571 and selecting the appropriate menu item.

Re: Digital Voice and BT8500 phones

Think you can turn off the DV voicemail too so it won't kick in
