If you'd be paying for the faster speed with BT you'd have got it too so it's not just due to moving ISP...
They will not make it faster. They outright refused to gve me more than 75. Becuase they are not supporting the old tech anymore. Double check the thread 🙂 If others have managed or convinced BT to reinstate that gfast tech then good for them. They did not do that for me hence moving and no fibre was availble.
I said "If you'd been paying" ie if you'd been paying for the higher g.fast speed with BT previously you'd have had it too, not talking about now
As stated , the point is that your new ISP has not magically found extra speed , you could have had that speed from BT when they were still in the Gfast business when you initially signed up with them , that speed was available up the point they decided not to be in the Gfast business anymore, you presumably at the time decided 145Mb was sufficient and you didn’t want or think 237Mb worth the additional expense.
Hopefully OR will continue to have this Gfast product available for a while to ISPs like your new one that want to offer it to end users like you , BT simply made the decision, in part because of the telephony considerations to remove it from its own product portfolio.
I was willing to pay whatever it took with BT when i signed up, the maximum they coudl provide was 145. If you they could have provided more they did not offer it. They could not / would not offer me more speed. Perhaps they capped it at a cetain rate for some long convoluted upgrade teir for fibre or just wouldnt for what ever reason for them. Which again is why i switched. BT are truly a mind unto themselves. My neighbour the other side of my wall also has the same issue with the speed and was on the "max" speed they could offer with the same set up also at at 145
Openreach only offer two speed profiles on Gfast 160Mb and 300Mb , both like FTTC are rate adaptive , the ‘restaraints’ on offering the higher rate on lines that are unable to deliver that speed are the same as FTTC , in that it is borderline dishonest for example to sell 80Mb on a line the supplier says will only deliver 50Mb , it’s the same with Gfast .
Obviously you have your own experience, but it’s counterintuitive, the question being why if the indications were your line was capable of the upper tier speed , and BT offered the upper tier on lines capable of it , why would BT self limit you to the lower tier ?,
You presumably realise you are on identical Openreach equipment and obviously the same copper pair and the line parameters that are set by the supplier not the ISP can’t have changed , ergo the logical conclusion is both profiles were available to every ISP , with no reason any ISP would forgoe the increased income they get from the higher bandwidth.
Which i why i left BT with all their nonsense 🙂 Im only reporting what they said and did 🙂 - as for retentions when they phoned they could offer nothing more either and stuck to their guns. Which i why i left BT with all their nonsense 🙂
