Re: Digital Voice phones outside range of Smart Hub 2

Go to solution

I would definitely disconnect the incoming line, my old land line was disconnected, cables removed and line was dead. Then Openreach came back and rewired from the pole to the front door, reconnected the cable going into the house and, for reasons unknown, the line is active again, though has no phone plugged into the master socket.

It would be good, if we actually had connectors marked a and b in our backplate interior. Instead we have connectors marked 1 through to 6? Please could someone recommend which cables to detach and which to leave in place?

here is a picture of it:

to get to the wires on A&B you need to remove the 2 screws which are holding the socket to backplate. the wiring you can see is extension wiring not the main incoming openreach wiring  internal extensions only connection on terminals 2&5  terminal 3 is the old bellwire which is no longer in use

Hi hope you dont mind me sending a message.  Your issue sounds like what we may come up against.  We are planning on having digital line .  The initial stage next week will be Openreach to do outside work.  Then another date wil be set when they come to make sure line and new router is working together.

Our landline used to come into through cable to hallway through outside wall.  This cable was moved internally behind plaster to bedroom directly above.  Did you have any issues with openreach having to put cables on outside wall  which we do not want doing?

Thanks

@Mattiesmomma

You are posting on a thread that is a year old and the OP of the post has not been back onto the forum since that time so you may not get a reply from the OP.

In general Openreach will try and site the equipment where the customer wants it however that is not always possible. If it can not be placed where you want it the engineer will explain why and suggest a suitable place. Any internal wiring after the equipment has entered your property is your responsibility.

In my experience the cable had to come into the house from outside, but we were given a choice of where. This did not need to be near the existing phone line, we chose opposite side of the room next to our smart tv. We were still able to use our old phone line as in the thread above. Hope this helps!
