Digital Voice

Advised that an engineer would contact to instal D V  by email dated16.10.24 ... so far nothing.

Today .. post card delivered saying it was possible to order free adaptor . no luck on line and phone number given( 0800 783 1401 ) has lengthy queue .. gave up.

Any suggestions as to find current situation ?

you don't need an engineer visit for digital voice installation  provided you have a SH2 with green phone socket on back just a matter of disconnecting existing phone from wall socket and connecting to the socket on back of SH2.

once DV active then you can get an adapter

You can order one adapter for free from bt.com/DVequipment, or TEXT the word ADAPTER to 61998

Sorry. ..... BT advised me by letter dated Oct 24, that

1. "..we'll be in touch to arrange for an engineer to install Full Fibre at your property"

2. " You'll select a day and engineer will come and carry out the work .."

3. " You can sit back and relax ..."

Then received card guide giving all the fabulous features ... but no action !

Tried to obtain adapter ... phone continually engaged.

How is this to be advanced .. by who ... and when ?

Zoom vans  are all around here, doing installation in a day, at a lower price with many converts from BT ... who could blame them ?

Been with BT for  more than 40 years and always had a high opinion .. this is the worst

Just to clarify things…

The confusion here comes about because BT and/or Openreach, (separate companies), are very keen to do the conversion to Fibre and DV at the same time.  In fact, DV does not require full fibre and will run quite happily over the old copper.  The upgrade to DV does not require an engineer visit.  The upgrade to full fibre will.

Sorry, I know that doesn’t get you any further forward but it should help reduce future confusion.

Thanks for that ... it is frustrating to be told to " sit back and relax " ....

1. ..........not knowing if plans for installation / up grade are going ahead and to wait it out ..or

2. ......... how / who in  / where  BT is to be contacted.

Has anyone any ideas or experience ????

You are conflating two things , Digital Voice doesn’t need an engineer visit ( you don’t need an engineer visit to remove your phone cord from the wall socket and plug it into the router socket ) but FTTP does need an engineer visit for the initial installation, your  post stated you were getting an engineer visit for DV ( not true ) you then quote the communication that clearly states


1. "..we'll be in touch to arrange for an engineer to install Full Fibre at your property"

 

DV and FTTP are not the same thing , DV doesn’t need FTTP ,  initially you didn’t mention FTTP .

Is this conversion to FTTP effectively out of the blue ( no contact to renew your contract or take ( or remove) other services ? or it a consequence of you contacting BT , or BT  contacting you , and whatever was agreed regarding service , came with a  migration to FTTP ?


 Generally speaking , no one is just contacted by BT or Openreach  ’ out of the blue ‘ and told ‘we have decided, without your consent or agreement , to change you to FTTP ‘ .

 

Depending on what’s required, an Openreach FTTP installation will be no slower than Alt Nets , obviously you don’t know the lead time between this Alt Net taking an order and completing it , and although it may seem attractive to order on Tuesday and be installed on Wednesday ( as an example ) it doesn’t bode well for the long term sustainability of that Alt Net if they are so under occupied with work they can install so quickly, as a ( admittedly poor ) analogy, if you needed a plumber and rang around , the decent ones ( that get work from recommended and repeat business ) are not likely to be available immediately, the cowboy on the other hand that doesn’t get recommended or repeat business will be ‘around in five minutes’ .
