I am 80 yrs old & my family signed me up with wi fi so I could watch tv on a firestick. the programme i watched is ending soon - i cant get on with the firestick & dont bother to watch anything else unless a family member puts it up on screen for me so i find it pointless. i have no computer etc & my family have their own & also use their phones, so is it worth these days getting a landline only - i have one of those BT digital type phones.. or do they want everyone to have wi fi as well these days - would it be worth just having a mobile instead - as sim cards can be cheaply bought i understand (i have one & my family sort the card/bill out for me) i can use it enough to make calls. many thanks
If you no longer need the internet, I suggest a mobile is by far the best option. Without going into details, landlines become complicated.
Hi @cat2208.
Thanks so much for coming here.
@licquorice has provided some really great advice.
Are you aware if you are currently in a contract?

Openreach have their new Media Gateway Service.
Basically it’s VoIP but you don’t need a Router or any kind of Internet Connection in your home.
The line is converted to Digital Voice, aka VoIP at the Exchange.
