Fibre900 with phone services / use own router?
Hi all.
I have just purchased BT900 full fibre with voice services, which after browsing the internet all afternoon, seems to have been a mistake, if I want to use my own router.
It looks like there is no way to bypass completely the BT router if we have voice services as the phone line needs to be connected to HH2.
Now I have a good setup at home with Vigor Router and Vigor Switch and Vigor AP, and I am using VLans for several reasons, one of which segregation of networks.
I might have to cancel my order or just change it, it at all possible to broadband only and then do a port transfer of my current landline number to a VoIP provider.
Can BT HH2 be used just as a modem or bridge mode? And if so, will the phone services still work?
Any help is truly appreciated.
Many thanks.
Albert

Re: Fibre900 with phone services / use own router?
You must use the Smarthub 2 as the first device after the ONT (modem) in order to use Digital Voice. You can then connect your own router after that. There are many posts on the forum how to do that.
You can have BT Broadband without a landline telephone and you can arrange your own VOIP if you wish. You can port your present landline number to a VOIP service although it should be noted that there are posts about the number being lost in the process so be aware that can happen.
The BT Smarthub2 can not be used as a modem or in bridge mode but as stated above you can use it with your own router as long as it is the first device after the ONT.
There are numerous post covering this.
See link for further info that you may find of use.
