How do I port a Digital Voice number out, and change to SoGEA?

Hi.

Current situation is:

  • BT FTTC broadband (Fibre 1), with a landline number that's now been moved across to Digital Voice
  • Broadband contract ends 10th November
  • 2 × BT mobile phones on the account
  • Existing Asterisk server with additional VoIP number from Voipfone
  • A Starlink system on loan

I'm currently having to use the BT router to spit the phone line out as analogue, then into an FXO port on the Asterisk box, which is rather daft, but as far as I can see there's no way to bring it in digitally.  Plus, I'm having to use the BT router in front of my own router, which is also not ideal.

Assuming there's no easy way of ditching the BT hub and getting DV directly into Asterisk, I'd like to end up with:

  • Broadband without phone service (SoGEA)
  • Existing landline number ported to Voipfone
  • Mobiles as before

I understand porting out a landline number also cancels the broadband product associated with it, but the stars have aligned somewhat with temporarily having use of a Starlink dish to get me over any changeover period.

So my questions are, what are the steps I need to take, and in which order?  What happens if I get Voipfone to initiate a port out?  Do my BT services just end and I have to start again - and if so, what happens to the mobile plans (with the £5 discount for having BT broadband)?  Or is there just a switchover where one broadband product gets replaced with another?  When I want SoGEA, what exactly do BT sell that as?  Will I get anywhere if I phone 150, or will I just confuse them?

Phew...

If you ask Voipfone to port your BT DV number it will indeed cease the BT Broadband and because your BT mobile has a discount for BT Broadband which you won’t have ( even if your intention is to rejoin  BT as a broadband only customer ) the discount is likely to be removed , and should you ( once your BT Broadband is re established ) try to get the discount reapplied , I think it likely you would be ‘encouraged’ to take an EE mobile plan ( they still get a discount for BT broadband ) , TBH , my BT mobile is now EE and I get a BT Broadband discount , the move to EE was seamless and painless 

As far as SoGEA , all FTTC packages from any provider using Openreach will now be SoGEA , you don’t need to specify that , the only variable is if you want an telephony service or not , but as that’s from the ISP , it’s irrelevant to Openreach if you go with or without the ISPs  telephony, it’s SoGEA irrespective.

Hi @nil     Do be wary of causing your Fibre 1. to cease if the cabinet you are fed from is "full".

               There are cases on this forum where a customer attempting to re-establish their broadband find that their original  VDSL slot has been released and is now in use for somebody else.  You are then stuck with copper ADSL, or maybe nothing,  (unless FTTP is available).  If the address checker for your cabinet shows: WBC SoGEA.   Available ,    then you could disregard this post.
