How to keep BT landline and number while cancelling BT broadband

Hi All

Just want to know how I can keep my existing BT landline and number while cancelling BT broadband. I have no complaints about BT broadband which is excellent but as I have no use for it at the moment, I would like to cancel. I have been told by the BT Loyalty Team that as the BT landline works off BT broadband then I will need to cancel both which I find hard to understand. Hoping there is a way to keep the BT landline and number as I don't want to lose this. I have had my BT landline for a long time and most older relatives use it to contact me.

What is your Broadband at the moment? Is it ADSL vial the copper wires and master socket or have you got Fibre either FTTC or FTTP. If you have been switched to Digital Voice and now plug your phone into the green socket on the back of the Hub (Smart Hub 2) then I'm sure you'll need to keep your Broadband for your phone to work.

From January 2027 some form of broadband will be required for telephony. I'm not sure if BT have yet decided how they will supply telephony to customers without broadband, there are a couple of options to do that.

I very much doubt they have considered how current customers can keep telephony without broadband as there is a stop sell on analogue lines. Whilst it would seem reasonable if you currently have an analogue phone service I'm fairly sure ' the computer will say no' .

If you could get a ‘downgrade’ to telephone only , what is your price expectation, how much cheaper than phone and broadband do you expect telephone only to be  ?.

Telephone on a PAYG  is over £30 a month , although a discount for ‘no broadband’ from anyone , including other ISP’s may be available, but the standard price isn’t a lot less than a combined basic broadband and phone service , as there is no old style standalone telephone service available to order ,  and as far as I know, no way to downgrade from broadband with phone to phone only .it has to be DV , it would be interesting how a new customer ordering a phone only service is provided with it , but I’ve never seen a post from someone doing this or knowing someone who has done that since WLR was removed from sale .
