Landline renumber

Evening Everyone, hoping for some help trying to recover my bt landline number.

We moved our services from sky to virgin. The crossover was meant to happen on the same day however Virgin gave me less than 24hours notice of cancelling my installation and my services at sky were cancelled. Long story short I had no landline or Internet for 3 weeks plus  I've now lost my landline number which I really need back. I've checked the of com website and the number is owned by bt and has been since July 1994.

However after a lot of phone calls to bt I'm not really getting anywhere.

Is there anyone on here that can assist me please?

@NatL89

Welcome to this user forum for BT Retail phone and broadband customers.

BT Retail do not control numbers.

As you are not a BT Retail customer, the only possible chance of getting your original number re-allocated, would be to move your phone and broadband to BT Retail.

Its never 100% guaranteed, but its normally possible.

Re: Landline renumber

As already stated , if the number ‘belongs’ to a BT number range , that by using BT , it’s possible, but not guaranteed, that the number could  be retrieved ( starting with any old BT number , and getting a renumber to the number you want but it can take a little while ,  if your query is will BT help you via a different provider get the number for this other provider to offer you service, the answer is No , unless you are a BT customer, it’s got nothing to do with BT , even if the number is a ‘BT’ one.

If you were prepared to take the leap of faith, you would order service with BT and then ask for a renumber once the BT service was in and working

@NatL89

When you say you have a BT Landline, do you mean you are paying BT Retail for your service?

People sometime get confused and assume a copper phone line belongs to BT, when it could belong to another provider.

If you have an active service with BT Retail, are you still living at the same address where you were first given the number?

Re: Landline renumber

If you dial 150, what announcement do you get?

Can you make outgoing calls on your existing landline as it could just be a "stopped" line?

If you dial 17070, does the number read back to you, match the number on your BT Bill?

Re: Landline renumber

Yeah, I have a new bt landline now active at home as I was told that was the best way to get my landline number back. BT is the current provider also.

Yeah I'm still at the same address.. the original number I've had for over 30 years.

Re: Landline renumber

In that case, I will ask a moderator to see if they can arrange a manual re-number back to your original number. Its not guaranteed.

One of them should post back here tomorrow.

Re: Landline renumber

Hi @NatL89

Welcome to the BT Community and thanks for your posts!

I am sorry for the problems getting your original number back.  As your services are with us, we'll be able to check this out from here.  As the guys have said above, it's never guaranteed that you'll get the number back, but we'll do our best.

I have sent you a private message with instructions on how you can send us over your details and we'll look into this for you. See: Private messages

Thanks,

Robbie
