Need advice with new replacement router

Hello, I'm a returning customer from Sky and looking for some help with my setup. I'm sorry but I found the Smart Hub 2 not good enough for todays usage and opted for a Wi-Fi 7 TP-Link BE9300 which I have now as my primary router. It is connected directly to my Openreach ONT, removing the need for the SH2. Everything works fantastic and I'm getting 939Mbs from a 900Mbs fibre connection or so Speedtest tells me on the PC. Also getting vastly improved Wi-Fi but unfortunately my landline now does not work due to no connection for it.

Is there any way or with some adaptor/module that can be purchased from BT that will allow me to connect my landline into the new routers ethernet port? or even if there is a house phone from BT that works exclusively Wi-Fi with no cable connected to the router and will accept it?

We have only just started our BT contract and the landline is really only for rare incoming calls as we mostly use our mobiles. I would prefer to have the line working but id sack the house phone off instead of going back to the SH2 and then cancel the landline on renewal should I stay with BT.

I have seen others mention this in old threads here but just wondered if anything new has came about. Surly there must be some kind of easier workaround.

Welcome to this user forum for BT Residential phone and broadband customers.

Unfortunately there is no alternative to having the Smart Hub 2 as the primary device. Its only BT Business that use IP phones. There is no such option on BT Residential unless you use a third party VOIP provider.

You could use the Smart Hub 2 with a phone plugged in, to setup a redirect of incoming calls to your mobile. Then you could go back to your original setup.

If it’s the Wi-Fi speed you’re worried about, you can always switch off the Wi-Fi on the SH2 and plug your TP in as a separate wireless access point.  That way you’d get the benefit of the Wi-Fi 7 and still keep the digital voice.

@WSH Yes this was something I did when I was on the old Sky Broadband Hub. I always thought an ISP Router/Modem was needed until recently when I looked into it while moving to BT. I always like new and improved tech so having the inferior ISP router again being my primary device just didn't sit well with me this time.

Decided to contact BT and as we are only 10 days into our contract I have cancelled our landline and will look into other options that will work. I am slightly surprised there is no small module or adaptor for a workaround as I would've paid for it, oh well. 

Only thing I'm a bit puzzled with is while on the phone with the cancelation guy I explained my situation and he was very helpful but he said we will now send you an EE router, even though I don't want or need it. 

What is most important is my download speed, which I am getting so good job BT.

As you had a broadband and phone contract then ending phone would normally end your whole contract and you then need to start a new broadband only contract - unless BT have now changed their procedure.  A new router may suggest  going to EE broadband only
