Hi,
I have recently moved to York and have signed up to BT Broadband and Digital Voice. This has all gone without problem. My issue is that we have been given a telephone number with the area code 01430 - which is associated with the Yorkshire and Humberside exchange at Market Weighton (25 miles away) - rather than the expected YORK area code 01904.
I rang BT to ask for a York number but was told that due to the exchange I had the 01430 number. Supposedly the 01904 number is associated with the North Yorkshire exchange. Given we are in the centre of York I cannot understand why our number cannot be changed!
Any thoughts, guidance on how to get our number changed would be very welcome.
Thanks
PS. We are new to York hence cannot retain an existing number
