No dial tone with DV

Go to solution

To cut a very long story short, when BT switched me to DV & supplied a new hub, it never worked properly despite many weeks of engineer visits, etc. Anyway, it still drops regularly but that's not what I'm writing about this time, as BT & I came to an agreement.

It's the DV 'landline'. I only had a landline in case of power cuts when, of course, internet would go down & landline was only way of getting in touch with anyone. All a bit pointless now because if there's a power cut, phone won't work anyway. My corded phone is plugged into the green hole in the hub & I wanted to phone my mobile (not a BT contract) because someone said they'd phoned my mobile & it didn't connect. So I have now discovered that there is no dial tone on my corded phone & if I phone it from my mobile it goes to my corded phone voicemail & advises that I'm not available!  Which of course I couldn't access anyway because corded phone is not connected. I've also tried another corded phone, with same result.  Both corded phones are not that old & in fact, coincidentally, are both models recommended for DV. I've also reset the hub, something I have to do anyway every day or so.  On looking at Hub Manager, it says 'not configured' next to phone icon. It used to show my landline number.

Any ideas?  Having already spent weeks previously in contact with BT & Openreach re the original problem, I really don't want to fall down that rabbit hole again.

If the hub says not configured, then it’s pretty self explanatory, you don’t currently have DV , if you have been told previously that you were migrated to DV and it has worked in the past  , it isn’t working now , and is not likely to be a physical issue , unless you are on FTTC and your line has been crossed with another customer who doesn’t have a BTDV service ,so basically you have someone else’s broadband connection and someone else has yours , but  it’s likely either a configuration or an account issue rather than a cross connection at the cabinet /DP or whatever.

You need to report your telephony not working and tell BT that your router states that the telephone service is not configured.

One of the last occasions this type of issue came up the poster didn’t provide initially some pretty relevant information, they had somehow managed to get Openreach to move (rearrange) the external network so their line was from one copper cabinet to a closer one , this messed up the FTTC port allocation, anything out of the ordinary with your situation ?

@iniltous

Thanks. Apart from the previous problems mentioned, and a lot of BT & Openreach engineer visits, plus remote resets etc from BT Guides, over about 12 weeks of my life (!) all was done that could be done & internet/wifi is working as well as can be expected considering BT did all they possibly could (including escalating a complaint) & we agreed to let sleeping dogs lie & I could cope with having to restart the hub every now & then. TBH I hadn't noticed the DV wasn't working; I'll do as you suggest & let BT know.  I do have FTTC, no sign of getting full fibre to the property in the foreseeable future.  I appreciate your input.

All sorted. BT said they'd get the DV working again, but haven't. As my contract is renewing soonish, I have agreed a cheaper monthly rate for my broadband & they are also no longer charging me PAYG monthly fee, considering I have no DV anyway!
