I don't think the OP is using DV phones.
It was suggested that the OP connected whatever phone she owned prior to DV directly into the hub socket .
She also appears to have a DV adapter.
Yes, just a thought as the OP said in message 17 "They are DV phones...".
If you don't think there is any milage in it, fair enough.
Thank you, but I didn't set up the phones. That was done by a BT Engineer. I haven't got a new hub yet. There was a flash power outage about 3 weeks ago and I think that may have caused the phones to suddenly not work. BT have sent me a new hub but I haven't changed it yet as I realise that everything else will stop working (Ring doorbell, TV channels).
Thank you. I know that's what I have to do, just haven't plucked up the courage yet. But, as the phones were working 4 weeks ago and now are not, I don't see that they would necessarily work as they used to do - but I live in hope. As I mentioned, BT installed the phones some time ago, so I have no idea how they were done. Kind of you to help.
Are you saying , prior to Digital Voice you had no telephone service at all and therefore you had no telephone you owned prior to these DV phones or DV adapters supplied by BT and connected by the ‘engineer’ ? , if you had a regular telephone service before DV ( before the phone started using the router and was connected to a phone socket on the wall ) then clearly you had a telephone instrument , so what happened to that telephone ?
You could buy a cheap corded phone ( less than £10 on line ) , and try plugging that directly into the router phone port to establish if the DV service is faulty or not (or borrow a one from a friend , neighbour or relative ) as you seem to be no further forward, reluctant as you are to change the router , trying a regular phone in the existing router phone socket will prove one way or another if you need to swap out your router for the new one .
I'm sorry, but I was told that I could only use digital voice phones when I was switched to that system. I don't have my old phones anymore.
Ah, well just for the record then, you can plug an old phone into the socket on the back of the hub or into one of the plug-in adapters and it will work fine. I'm using a 10 year old Panasonic cordless system with the base station plugged into the back of the Smart Hub and it's fine.
Edit: as iniltous said, there might be something in getting a cheap plug-in phone from, say Asda, and plugging it into the back of the hub to test the line. Also, (I don't think anyone has mentioned it), but I take it you've looked at the hub management page on 192.168.1.254. It should show your phone number when you log-in, if the line is set up correctly. Lastly, I did mention earlier that there have been reports of the rechargeable batteries in the DV phone failing after a short while, so it may be worth considering that.
