Re: Landline

I have had an email from BT today saying that I have to have my broadband with BT now and not another provider otherwise I could lose my broadband. It did mention about the digital switchover but I was of the opinion that there was no legal requirement to have broad band with BT because of this. Is this a scam email? It was not addressed to the account holder it was just addressed as ‘Hi’

it came from an address that started [email protected]

There was also a phone number at the bottom - 0800 032 6279

Also, I am still one of the many I’m sure that still can’t access their MY BT account since having to change my user name to an email address. I can get in but it is still saying can’t show my information and my account number is inactive. I have spoken to several agents online with no resolution. I am unable to see my bills or use call protect to block spam. My phone is kept in do not disturb mode, effectively I am paying for a service I can’t use!! This has been since March, it is now July!!

Re: Landline

If you are one of the small number of consumers that has broadband from one supplier and telephony from BT on the same ‘line’ then you can’t stay on that arrangement, if you want BT to continue supplying your telephone your broadband from another provider has to stop , if you want to keep your broadband with the other company your BT telephone has to stop.

You  can joint BT for telephone and broadband, your broadband supplier may also supply telephony and you could ( if they do ) join them for both ….but you can’t remain as you are , and as you have had ample time to make a choice , and you haven’t, you eventually get to the point where a choice is made for you .

If you want BT to supply telephony and that’s the assumption, but continue to not supply broadband, your broadband from the other company (if it’s on the same line ) will have to end then your current BT telephone will then be converted to a pre digital phone line (to all intents and purposes nothing changes at your house ) the result is you have telephone only on your ‘line’ .

TBH , much like the original post , you have almost certainly misrepresented what the communication actually says ….I doubt it says you have to take BT broadband, it probably says a one way to keep telephone and a broadband service (if keeping broadband is important ) is to take both from BT …..post the entire communication , rather than your take on what it says , and we can be the judge.

Re: Landline

Broadband providers will be kicked off WLR3 lines eventually, leaving just a basic telephony  service operating.(probably a cut down PDPL service)

Broadband providers are expected to make other arrangements but this is a last resort should they fail to.

Re: Landline

On the user account, keep reminding them and ask first which department you should be speaking to about it, as  they are ever so helpful & often keen to have a go (whoever you reach on calling ...150) but can end up making things worse when not the right team for it.

Re: Landline

I have a somewhat similar situation.

In my case I received a letter apparently from BT dated 27 July 2026 which had my correct postal address and account number (there were two extra digits before ny actual account number).

There letter is written in such a way that it assumes I have my phone service with BT but my broadband with another supplier. I have both with BT.

One sentence says "this means that you'll need to switch BT Broadband in order to keep your BT home phone service),  I am already already on BT Fibre 1 broadband.

The letter says to ring 0800 032 6279.

The letter is offering me to switch to full fibre 150 for £23.99 which is substantially less than if I check my upgrade offers on MY BT.

Re: Landline

The two letters before the account number are geographic, some are obvious  like NE , North East, other not so obvious.

Is your BT phone service still on PSTN , so connected to the socket on the wall or already on DV so connected to  the BT router ?, do you pay a single bill for both services ?

Re: Landline

Have you called the number ? That seems to be the obvious to do, what’s more if FTTP is available, (FF150 only available if it is ) then it’s seems baffling to not take the upgrade , given your previous posting history around problems with your account access etc , it’s likely if this communication suggests an arrangement you don’t actually have ( implying you have a separate broadband provider and telephony provider ) it’s tied up with that .

Re: Landline

Thanks for your responses.

I had originally given thought to telehoning the number in the letter but a search on the internet suggested it was possible a scam number.

I telephoned BT 150 earlier today and customer service after discussing with their rmanager said it was a scam letter.

After my call with BT 150 I took bull by the horns and phoned the number in my letter whaich turns out to be genuine. The person was most helpful and after they talking with the Loyalty group said the letter had been sent out in error. They recognise my account covers both broadband and home telephone, it would be a red  herring to suggest my account issue quite some months ago caused this latest escapade.
