I wish to add a Landline back onto my BT account, I currently have Broadband and TV via BT. I did have a landline and a local phone number, but as it was never used, I took it off the package to save money.
My elderly mother is staying for a few weeks after being in hospital, and I wish to resume the Landline for her in case she needs help which doesn't require her to use her Lifeline and also so that her friends and family can keep in touch with her - there is an extremely poor mobile signal here. I would want to plug a phone into the extension in the bedroom she is using.
I can find no way of re-adding this to my package, is this because digital voice is coming in? Is the landline being phased out?
currently you have a broadband only contract and if you now want the use of home phone then you need to start a new package for broadband and phone. the phone will have a new number from before and you will be on Digital voice where the phone connects to back of BT SH2. the socket in bedroom will no longer work ( unless changes are made) or you get a free DV adapter from BT
the additional cost for ability to make receive call on home phone is £2/5 pm you can choose from PAYG or an unlimited calls package

If you removed the facility to make/receive telephone calls to save money , then clearly to add the facility back on will cost something, and that will approximately be the amount you previously ‘saved’ .
As stated the price difference between standalone broadband and the same broadband with telephone on a PAYG basis is officially £5 but often discounted to £2 or £3 , the new phone service will be DV ( Digital Voice , so the phone plugs into the router ) but you can get a ‘free’ adapter that would allow a regular phone to be used in a different room to the router , the chances are the phone number you previously had won’t be reallocated, so a new number, and adding telephony will probably start a new minimum term .
Hi thanks for the info, it was to save money as was never used however circumstances change and we now need a landline. I have spoken to BT today and they are setting up DV and sending me an adapter, they tell me I will have my previous phone number.
was it more than 30 days since you gave up your phone number? were you told you needed to start a new contract for broadband and phone?
