Unable to connect BT Essential phone to BT Hub wirelessly

Go to solution

Moved to BT in December, received my new hub and discovered my current phone cannot connect unless I get an engineer to move my wall socket. BT information online states that any BT essential phone will connect wirelessly to the hub.

Thinking that it was a better option I forked out £60 for a pair of BT essential phones but the buttons and initial phone set are different from the BT online instructions e.g. no onscreen instructions to connect wirelessly to the hub, no home button and connecting to the hub wirelessly is nowhere in the phone instructions.

My son brought over his essential phone that had Alexa (premium model?) and it connected to my hub wirelessly, but my phone does not set same set up options. Just the date and time and phone book.

I haven't a clue what to do not, do I return the phones, get an engineer, or source the adaptor I have seen mentioned?

I have had no landline for a month now and my wife has health issues and I desperately need my landline to work.

I really hopeful someone can help me

Kind regards

Billy

@billybrown27

Please read this thread.

I suspect you have the wrong phones.

If that is the case, then you would have to plug the base unit into the green socket on the back of the BT Smart Hub 2.

Hi Keith,

Thank you for the quick reply.

I have bought the wrong phone, it's the one below with an additional unit. BT definitely do not explain this clearly.

I will plug it into the green connection on the back of the hub.

Many thanks for your help and advice.

Its essentially quite confusing 😞

You phone will work just as well, possibly better, as the base unit is properly designed for the job, and the numbers will be stored on the phone, and not within the home hub.

It's confusing because BT insist on calling 2 entirely different things by the za.e name.

You couldn't make it up.

Update

I connected the phone into the green port on the hub and I got a dial tone on the line. Unfortunately I can make calls out but cant receive calls. We get a message - 'it has not been possible to connect your call'.

We never use our landline for making calls, but because of my wife's health she often gets calls from the doctor or the hospital on the landline.

I've contacted BT for help.

Best regards

Billy

That seems to be a common problem with DV. Hopefully BT can sort it out.
