What happens if you're with another broadband provider?

Could anyone tell me what happens if you're with a different broadband provider?

We have a BT landline but we get our broadband from Plusnet. I've been searching for info about what to do but I haven't found anything so far.

Has anyone else been in this situation? I'm dreading the day when the card/letter arrives about the changeover.

Many thanks in advance for any information or advice.

Cheers

Re: What happens if you're with another broadband provider?

I presume that the changeover you're asking about is to one to digital voice?
If that's correct, there was another discussion on this forum about this a few days ago and you could search for that.
As far as I'm aware, people with a BT landline and a different broadband supplier will be treated by BT in the same way that people with a BT landline and no broadband supplier will be treated.
And that is still something BT is developing but it's speculated that they'll be issued with some sort of pared down router that their phone can plug into or, alternatively, this unit will be located at the exchange so nothing in the house will change.
The speculation is that people in either of these 2 groups will be the last to be changed over to DV, so you've probably got nothing to be concerned about for a few years, at least!

Correction!
I've just noticed that your broadband supplier is Plusnet, which is part of the BT group, so I guess you may be offered a move to BT or EE as your broadband supplier

@wendywoo3

Plusnet are also withdrawing from offering a phone service all together - https://www.plus.net/broadband/phone-faqs/

https://community.plus.net/t5/Home-Phone/Renewing-contract-with-landline/td-p/1997424

PlusNet may offer a move to either EE or BT if you want to keep your phone service otherwise you can go broadband only with PlusNet and port your number to a third party VoIP service.

Re: What happens if you're with another broadband provider?

Many thanks for your quick reply, chrisjp, and your explanation as to what might occur in my landline only with BT situation. I think I was able to find the other post you mentioned too, so that was also helpful and reassuring.

Sounds like I have a bit of time yet before my changeover notification comes, so I won't panic just yet!

Re: What happens if you're with another broadband provider?

Thanks for your quick reply, jac_95.

It sounds like there are solutions being developed for those of us who only have landline with BT, so I'll wait and see what is offered/suggested when the time comes. Looks like it might be a while yet, judging by chris's reply and other threads I was directed to.

Cheers
