I have been notified of a change over to digital voice, I have very low broadband speeds only 1 or 1.3 and cannot stream and have trouble down loading anything. buffering , freezing and loss of signal, and yes after 6 odd engineers nothing more they can be done and no sign of any upgrade in my area. Will digital voice work on my very low broadband speeds
Welcome to this user forum for BT Retail phone and broadband customers.
Yes, Digital Voice only requires 128Kbs typically.
Voice calls are normally allocated 64Kbs each, so that allows for two simultaneous calls to be handled. I think if HD calling is used, then possibly both channels are used.
This is based on the earlier BT Broadband Talk service, so I would expect DV to be similar, except that is may allocate bandwidth dynamically using a variable bit rate.
Yes, the bandwidth requirement of DV is in Kb’s not Mb’s , there is a wholesale 0.5Mb profile available to providers that have ‘no broadband’ customers, that will only need IP telephony , like DV, you don’t fit into that category as you already have broadband.
