Hello
I have the BT Fibre 2 Service and the hub has 3 ethernet ports and a WAN port. The entry point is the living room.
My computer is in another room and the additional BT wifi disk is connected by ethernet cable to it.
But I have another device now that will need to have an ethernet cable connection. Would another WIFI disk do the job or is there anything else I can try? The disks would be sat next to each other which probably isn't a good idea.
thank you
Solved! Go to Solution.
You can connect an Ethernet switch to the Ethernet port on the existing disk. You can then connect your existing, and any additional Ethernet devices.
About £9.50 on Amazon.
That would give you three extra ports.
Excellent, thank you very much.
Hello
I've got the network expansion hub and all devices are working except for the new NAS box. It's a Synology DS223. It was working fine when plugged direct into the router, but now it's plugged into the hub, there is no network light at all and I have tried a different cable and a different slot.
Will a NAS work via a hub?
No reason why it shouldn't. But why not just plug it back into the router now you have spare sockets.
My Synology NAS works fine via a hub so shouldn't be an issue.
What else is plugged into the hub that works?
I've got my laptop's ethernet connection and the Hive central heating hub.
I'm just borrowing another network cable to double make sure.
No idea what limitations there may, or may not be hanging a Switch off a Complete WiFi disc. But I'd be inclined to set a static IP address on the NAS, which will make accessing it through a browser easier anyway.
Make sure you try it in a port on the hub that works with something else, and try something else in the port you have the NAS. As with all things electronic some parts can break with strange consequences.
All sorted now!
Thank you to everyone who has replied. A friend did it for me as I'm not physically very able - reset the NAS, the router, and some new cables.
