BT Fibre Query

Hi all,

Recently I placed an upgrade order to BT Full Fibre 100.

I have a couple of questions regarding this and I was was hoping you could help.

  • On Thursday I received a package from BT which included a red WAN cable. There was also a note inside that said I didn't need to return my current hub. However, today I received a returns bag from BT saying I did need to return my hub. Surely this is a mistake. Has this happened to anyone else?
  • Also, the red WAN cable that came is too short. Can BT send a longer cable? If not, can I just use a regular Ethernet cable, eg. 5 metres?
  • For anyone that has had fibre recently, how was the experience?

Thanks,

Tamoor

Re: BT Fibre Query

your existing SH2 should be ok but check by going to hub manager then advanced settings then broadband and you should be able to toggle FTTP on   if not then you need a new hub

You can use your existing cat 5 ethernet cable if red cable to short

Re: BT Fibre Query

Hi,

Thank you for confirming.

Also, just to confirm does my hub and the fibre box need to be near my master socket or additional ADSL socket.

If not, can this be installed upstairs as that's where the fibre will be ran on my phone line and dropped down to wherever it needs to go?

Re: BT Fibre Query

the existing master is not used and connection is new and does not need to be near master.   you would need to speak with the openreach installer to see if he can install fibre connection where you want.  you need to be able to provide power sockets for ONT and hub

Re: BT Fibre Query

Thank you for confirming.

Lastly, is it fine if these run on their own extension leads since I do not have a dedicated double socket?

Re: BT Fibre Query

you could connect both to 1 extension lead
