Re: BT Hub 2 remains Blue but no internet via cat 5 cable or wi fi

As stated previousl, it means you have an intermittent line fault.

DSL Link down is a line break.

I really don't know why I am asking this but has anybody thought about asking basic diagnostic questions such as when does this happen?

Is it random or at certain times?

I think random

What are you doing/ using when this happens?

using my laptop

Is it when you are on your laptop or other devices?

Alexa and laptops, not sure about cctv

Is it happening when using a wireless connection or when using a wired connection?

Have you tried disconnecting all devices and only connecting one at a time in order to eliminate each of the devices? N0

Have you introduced any ne w electrical equipment to your property?

No

Is your boiler on a timer?

immersion heater, yes

Is your Smarthub on an electrical extension or sharing an electrical wall socket? etc etc etc.

Not that I know of the last time it happened but I did not wire the house. More's the pity

That makes sense but why when the line recovers do I not get a wi fi signal strong enough for my lap top, phone or bt set top box to use?

Re: BT Hub 2 remains Blue but no internet via cat 5 cable or wi fi

The two things are not directly related.  Of course the problem with the DSL connection would upset the Wi-Fi in terms of talking to the internet but it should still talk to things in your network.  If it's not, it suggests they might be two different problems.

Out of interest, did you try a full factory reset?  Hold the pin on the back in until the light goes green?  That tends to sort out a lot of tempermental aspects of the Smart Hub 2.  It will go back to default setting, though.  You'll need to put any custom settings in again.

Not tried a factory reset.  I can do that, I would be surprised if that cured the problem but better to have tried and failed then never to have tried at all.

Openreach were booked to come out today, they never arrived and I have had no contact with them. I cant ask them why they never arrived as I am an EE customer.  Hope EE ask them and tell me.

I've scanned throught the previous posts, but I may have missed it, so just to be clear...

Other than your client devices (phones, computers, Set-top boxes, printers etc), you don't have any other pieces of network equipment plugged into your network?  So you are not using an old router as a network switch, for example?

There are 2 Alexa's and cctv using wi fi. No network cables are plugged into the back of the hub. No other router.

Just checking, because one issue that can cause what you are seeing with the Wi-Fi would be a second DHCP router.

So, how many cameras are there, how far away from the router are they (and how solid is the house), how old are they, and do they connect to a central server?

*Just having a look at my local Wi-Fi neighbourhood.  I've an App called Net Analyser that allows you to check channel saturation - essentially, too many devices using the same channel.  There are a couple of channels neighbours are using with saturation levels of 50%+, which is too high to be good!

3 cameras, a couple of years old. 12ft, 20 foot and 30 foot away from hub. No idea about a central server .

Judging by previous owners bodges, walls not very thick. In fact there is double glazing close by.

It would be easier if when looking at what is connected, I could identify what was what

Yup, out of ideas!  Elsewhere, I've seen a post by someone running 21 cameras on 2.4GHz permanently recording to a server, which was killing their WiFi - ya don't say!

The Net Analyser app I mentioned can also perform a LAN scan.  *Always proceed with caution with any App, and only download them via official sources!
