I am having issues with my BT wifi dropping out which means no devises can connect. I have a main hub and three disks I have had many engineers out but nothing they do seems to fix it. The router stays blue, but the disks go red most of the time however sometimes they stay blue. Bt Tell me the broadband is fine, but they cant fix this wifi issue. Any suggestions or help much appreciated.
have you tried changing the wifi channels in your hub to see if that helps. try using a wifi analyser on your phone to see the networks near you and the channels which are being used and then change your channels to a free or less congested channel
Have you tried a factory reset of the BT Home Hub?

Connection issues can be caused by the home hub running out of internal connections. A normal restart does not fix that.
Hi WIFI channel is set to 48, which was done by the Home Tech Expert. Where do a get the WIFI analyser from ?
Hi I have reset the main hub a few times to fix the issue, it does but only for a few days then it appears again.
Was it a full factory reset, by pressing the recessed button on the home hub for at least 20 seconds?
Hi No I just powered it down, so I press the reset button.
Follow the instructions on the link I posted. The settings are stored in a non-volatile user file which can only be cleared out with a full factory reset, which then restores the file to default and frees up all of the entries. This is an unfortunate "feature (bug)" of all of the BT home hubs.
Bear in mind that connected devices that use MAC randomisation (private addressing) enabled, are likely to cause the problem to re-occur in the future, so its best to disable that feature on devices connected to your home network.
Hi Would that just be on Laptops etc or other equipment, and how do I find these ?
Bear in mind that connected devices that use MAC randomisation (private addressing) enabled, are likely to cause the problem to re-occur in the future, so its best to disable that feature on devices connected to your home network.
Thanks
MAC randomisation started as an Apple feature. Then later Android versions introduced it, and about the same time Windows did.
Its inconvenient and does nothing to improve security, and also stops many parental and access controls from working.
I cannot give any specific places to look for the setting, as it depends on the device, but the advanced wireless settings is a good starting place.
The MAC address would give the option of randomised MAC, or device MAC. Its the device MAC you need to select. Its specific to each individual wireless network, so just do it on your own.
