Broadband conundurum

Please excuse my ignorance of all matters broadband.  We have three computers connected via structured cabling to a network which i assume is then linked to our bt hub.

We have security system which will only operate on 2.4 gh.  Recently the cameras started to drop off and the security company sent me an "extender" which has sorted things .

The computers though "can" have issues linking to websites. they get to the site but we cant open them  .  Alexa still works and ipad etc so its the computers getting a I assume a slow signal.

I cant understand if they are networked why they would be affected?  They dont work if we unplug the cabling and go onto wifi.  Is there any way I can set the computers using the structured cabling to only work on 5ghz in case the extender is causing issues?  failing that any other ideas as to what it may be causing the interference.

Thank you

Re: Broadband conundurum

2.4/5GHz only applies to wireless.  The wired connections are a separate system all together.

If they can reach the sites then your network must be OK.  If they are having difficulty opening the sites, it suggests a problem with the computer or site rather than the network.

Re: Broadband conundurum

Could be a number of things.  Is it with just the one browser or is it the same with other browsers?

Clearing the browser cache might be worth a try.  (Just be aware that may clear any stored passwords as well).

Re: Broadband conundurum

Could it not be a now faulty Hub.? My original HH3 yonks ago started this problem and rebooting it temporarily improved matters only to get worse again after a few days. I dumped that and got another newer BT hub and  matter was solved.
