Re: Changing name of connected devices

Go to solution

So I have the same problem as @davidwf15 . On the old SH2 I could change the name of MAC named devices. This would previously work in Hub Manager and the App.

I now have a SH3 and Extenders with the most up to date FW.r4.26.3 -R- 1923144 Prod 83002 and nowhere is it possible to find how to rename  devices in either the App or Hub manager.

To be more specific in looking at Device details from any route  ie via Extender and then connected devices or Your networks then your devices there are just three data lines:

1 Connected to:

2 IP address

3 MAC Address

With 30+ devices  and several cameras and plugs etc this is most confusing.

I wonder if there is a resolution if not now then in the near future.  I see that there are 2 further FW updates:

 r5.16.1

Deployment date: From August 2026

 r5.19.1

Deployment date: From September 2026

I posted on the EE forum as the guides there were sure that the EE App works but I don't have an account with EE so cannot use the app.

Any help would be appreciated

Re: Changing name of connected devices

With the Smart Hub 3, you cannot change the device names in Hub Manager anymore, which is a pain and particularly annoying.  Why BT have removed this useful feature I don't know.

However, you should definitely be able to change the names in the App as I have done so fairly recently.

In the App, when you go in to Your Network, then Your devices, you should see all the devices that have ever connected listed (ones currently online first, followed by ones currently offline).

Click on one of those, and you should be presented with three options:

Add to group
Device details
Rename device

Obviously, you need to selected the third option. That then shows you the current device name, which you can edit. Then click the Rename device button at the bottom of the screen to accept your changes.

Note that it can sometimes take a while for any changes to be reflected in Hub Manager.  I find that you have to close Hub Manager and then go back in to it to see the changes.

Good luck!

Hi @andydenyer ,

Thanks for this quick reply.

When i to into your network and see the list of online and off line devices, the only business i see are

Connected to

ip address

Mac address

Nothing about groups or renaming

My app is v 10.0.28. could that be the issue either upgrade or downgrade of the app?

That's the version I'm on too. But when I checked the version number and went back to my list of devices and clicked on one, I got the same results as you!

So I closed the app, signed back in again and now I'm getting the options I posted previously (including Rename device).

Solution: closing and reopening app no change.

A reboot of phone revealed the menu items @andydenyer said and i remembered.

Hope this helps others in the same bind
