Clarify 3rd Party Router Asus RT-AX58U can be used for Full Fibre 500 instead of BT SmartHub 2?

Go to solution

Hi everyone,

I've recently switched from Virgin Media to BT Broadband only package; Full Fibre 500.

I would prefer to use my Asus router (RT-AX58U) instead of the BTH2 due to security concerns and extra settings on the Asus router I used with Virgin Media.

I rang tech support asking how to put the BT SmartHub 2 into modem mode (bridge mode to some) but I cannot.

I've done some reading on here. Am I correct that I can use my Asus router by:

1) After factory resetting my Asus router; connect the ONT (on the wall) to my WAN port on my Asus router ...

2) Setup up using PPPOE with "bthomehub@btbroadband.com" and the password " BT" ...

3) Connect my PC via ethernet to my Asus router and then setup wireless on it as well as everything esle?

Thanks in advance for clarification.

Thank you for any advice in advance.

Correct on all points as long as you don't require a voice service, if you do, you will need to use the SH2 to provide it
