Removing the extra stage of unwanted network translation, would have improved the throughput, as there would be much less transmission overheads.
Leave it like that when you are on FTTP.

Re: Connection cutting out
You have both been brilliant and it is great to know the set up you have put in place needs no changing once FTTP has been installed.
Many, many thanks 🙏 👍😀

Re: Connection cutting out
I clicked Keith's @Keith_Beddoe's last message as accepted solution. I don't really know how the community works, so please accept my apologies if this means you do not get any credit for all of the help you provided. Both of you have been brilliant and I had intended to then click your last message as accepted solution too, but I now know that is not an option.
I could not have done what has been done without you both.
Vince

Re: Connection cutting out
Hi both. An update.
PS4 - My boy has reported no issues and he seems to think everything has been put right.
Firestick - Spent a good while this afternoon on an online chat to Surfshark (with agent clearly following a scripted manual) and then on a telephone call to BT - with an engineer visit arranged for Thursday. After then, suspicions arose, so I opted to try a few things. Firstly, restarted Firestick, checked Surfshark was activated and played Kris Kristofferson album on YouTube. Buffered after three tracks. Secondly, restarted Firestick, kept Surfshark disabled and played Kristofferson album on YouTube from start again. Buffered at start of second track. Thirdly, took ugreen ethernet adaptor out of the equation, restarted Firestick, checked Surfshark was activated, checked speed reaching steaming after VPN activation, and granted it had dropped from just under 70 to mid 40s, and played Kristofferson album from start again. Been around 45 minutes now with no issues and my partner has just changed Firestick to something she wants to watch - still going strong!!!
Therefore, despite logic dictating that wired connection to Firestick would be more stable and superior to WiFi, WiFi has just kicked the ugreen adaptor into the long grass! Also, I have just read some of the negative reviews about the adaptor and it seems it might work well at the start, but may not last - as is the case here.
If all goes well tonight, I will call BT tomorrow and cancel engineer visit.
Thank you both again
Vince

Re: Connection cutting out
I did suspect a local network issue from the start, and the changes you have now made, should resolve any issues. Its unlikely a visit from one of the Openreach Field Technicians (not engineers), would not have made any difference.
The PS4 should work better, now its not on double NAT (Network Address Translation).

Re: Connection cutting out
Hello Vince.
Yeah these ethernet adapters are kinda snake oil, I said right from the start you can do without it, glad that worked out for you 🙂
