What devices are you using to measure speed , WiFi connections are no indication of the speed your FTTP is delivering, you need to be testing using a wired device , something like a PC , that is Gb capable.
In the overwhelming number of cases of new FTTP customers complaining about speed , it’s the customer’s equipment or the way they connect, and their the FTTP , there is always a small chance that the speed profile has been incorrectly set , so the customer ( for example ) expects 900Mb and gets 500Mb because their ‘account’ was incorrectly set .
FYI , there is a difference between MB, Mb and mb’s any speed quoted in MB is an eighth of the Mb speed ( 8 bits in a byte ).
Perhaps you can post the actual speed test results.
To eliminate the SH2 ( presumably you are using the BT supplied router ) connected your PC directly to the ONT , and a PPPoE session, and try a speed test without the router connected.
Don't use wifi. Using a cat 7 cable direct to the router. Even switched the bt home hub router to an archer still same speed. Speed tests results were posted in last post
If you have FTTP , generally it either works or doesn’t , it’s not rate adaptive like FTTC /ADSL where a a long or poor ‘line’ affects the performance, if the light level at the ONT is sufficient the service works, the optical path you have is identical to every other user on your PON , you could have a faulty ONT , but everything else is common to every other user , so everyone on your PON would be having the same issues if the headend ( for example ) were faulty , and as stated if your light level was low , your ONT would show LOS ( loss of signal )
If you are convinced your service is not delivering the speeds you pay for , report it faulty, even if the OR tech simply demonstrates the correct speed on their own equipment.
Thanks yeh something defo not right. Ill raise a fault thanks.
there is another recent post where customer having speed problem like you and using a cat 7 cable and when he changed back to cat5e speed came back to expected. just a suggestion
Ill have a look but i mean the wifi speed would be different if that was the case. Wifi and Ethernet connection speeds match identically
What type is the cable from the ONT to the smart hub 2?
Have you tried @iniltous suggestion of a direct PPPoE connection to the ONT from your PC rather than via the hub (with a Cat5e cable)?
You mention you're using a Cat7 cable - another user on this thread reported that their speed was lowered by a Cat7 cable and only restored when they switched to a Cat5e cable, so that might be worth trying?
Yeh tried this. Same speed.
