Re: How to connect multiple (>50) devices?

Bulletin Boards were very popular. I had an Amiga 500 and I used a London based on called "01 for Amiga". In fact the owner of that  board was probably the first to enable a text based gateway to the early Internet by incorporating a separate dial-up connection. This was available for a small fee to registered subscribers to that board.

It was my first introduction to the Internet.

Re: How to connect multiple (>50) devices?

I'd really like to dial into a BBS to try it out. I know you can just use telnet today but I want to be as authentic as I can in the experience!

The only trouble is that I have a digital voice line and I read on here that dial up modems can only reliably operate up to 9.6k on digital voice lines.

If I did do this, would I have to look for and buy an actual 9600bps modem, or would one of the USB 56k modems just connect and work fine at the much lower speed?

Or am I asking a silly question?
