You only return equipment if 1) you are leaving BT or 2) It is old equipment that you no longer need or want or 3) BT have requested that you return the equipment for some reason which would be explained to you at the time of the request.
In all these instances why would you need or seek new equipment from BT.
If you are leaving BT to go to a new Broadband provider the new provider will supply you with the appropriate equipment for their service.
Do you have a landline phone and is it being changed to Digital Voice?
If it is you would need the Smarthub 2 which BT will send out to you however BT would have explained that to you when they asked for the Smarthub to be returned.
