Hub Manager Access and VoIP

Two questions, but they are related.

Setup: Smart Hub 2, with Ethernet cable to a network switch with two Ethernet cable outputs to two Laptops, one with Windows 8.1 and the other with Windows 7.1.

 

Router Hub Manager Access Issue:

Previously I was able to access the Router Hub Manager screen on my BT Hub5 with my Windows 8.1 PC via an Ethernet cable.

The Router was ‘upgraded’??? with a Smart Hub 2 – which is supposed to be the latest faster device, though I didn’t notice any change in my download / upload speeds.

However I now cannot get access to the Router Hub Manager via the usual 192.168.1.254 / https://bthomehub.home on the Windows 8.1 PC, via its Ethernet cable but I can get access to the Router Hub Manager via my Windows 7.1 PC via its Ethernet cable.

The browser window shows the ‘rotating image, indicating it is trying, but struggling, to get access and I just have a blank browser page.

What setting on the Windows 8.1 PC could cause this? – I’ve not gone back to the old Router to see if I still have access and the change of Hub has caused setting issues.

I have tried to connect to the Router via Wi-Fi, but no difference (Ethernet cable connected and/or removed). The Network connections screen shows it is detecting the correct router and the IP addresses appear ok.

I can connect to the Router Hub Manager via the Hub Wi-fi using the mobile.

  

WhatsApp

Running WhatsApp on my mobile, WiFi disabled, and thus access to the Internet via my EE SIM, WhatsApp quality of Audio / video worked, just – but left a lot to be desired. So I tried to use the Router WiFi to see if going through the router WiFi would improve things.

With a received WhatsApp video call I had no video at all, I could hear the other part but they could not hear me. This seems as though there is a VoIP type issue with the Router only allowing audio in one direction, but I cannot see any settings on the Router that can have any effect.

 

I’ve tried different Browsers, Opera / Google – but no difference.

 

I would appreciate any help / suggests with either of the questions above.

Apart from the obvious question of why are you using Windows 7 and 8.1, is it just the hub manager page you can't access or is it all web pages? Have you tried connecting directly to the hub rather than via the switch? Have you tried resetting the network adapter on the W8.1 machine?

The access to hub manager is http not https

As a pensioner I cannot afford to upgrade my PC's. The PC's I have do what I want, most of the time, so updating them just to say I have Windows 10 / 11 doesn't make sense. I run various development environments and as such these tend to work on older operating  systems. One PC is dedicated to a security system and thus the latest Pc + operating system would be a complete waste.

As Indicated on the Windows 7.1 system I can get the Router Hub Manager ok, it is only the Windows 8.1 that there is an issue - I can get web pages fine - but not the Router Hub Manager. Have the normal peripheral stuff on the Browser window but no web page contents. 

I have tried connecting directly to the hub via Ethernet, and Wi-Fi will connect directly anyway. I have not found anyway of resetting the network Adapter - why reset when the network is working for everything else - to the other PC, Ethernet storage and connection to a Smart TV.

Could you maybe have the username & password for the old HH5 stored in the browser & that’s now failing due to the change of password?

W10 was/is a free upgrade as is W11 but I doubt your PCs will have the necessary hardware for W11

Already tried clearing Browser caches, but to no avail, so unless the info is stored elsewhere?

Yes, and unless the later Windows gives you something you want over your current PC running an older Windows then an upgrade is not an upgrade - just a large 'downgrade' in your finances!

Passwords aren't stored in cache, they're permanently stored in the browsers settings unless manually deleted. Best option might be to install another browser, if you can find something that will install on an old OS. I dread to imagine what you're currently using.

As has already been said, the OS upgrade to W10 was free, so no drain on the finances. Obviously your call but you're running two OS versions that have long since ceased receiving security updates, that alone should be reason enough to upgrade.

In Opera clearing the cache will delete stored passwords and other sign-in data.

There doesn't appear to be any other settings relating to the router itself.
