IP address issues

I'm not an expert and a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Please correct my understanding and if possible provided help.

My PC and laptop connect to the BT hub via wifi no problem, strong signal etc. However when trying to access some websites I get a time out problem as if  I was not connected. Once, in order to see why i checked my private ip addess and discovered it to be 192.168.10.xxx I thought they were all in the range 192.168.1.xxx

I didnt understand why the address was outside of the range the router and hence internet gateway could access. I manually changed the address to 192.168.1.xxx and suddenly all was ok again.

Further instances of this happening led me to set static ip addresses but the problem persists. I still get devices on my network wifi connected but unable to access the internet. Further investigation showed that it only affects windows devices, Apple iOS devices once connected are fine.

What is going on? 

BTW I have only a limited understanding of IP4 and no nothing of IP6 which may be the cause of the issues.

Also are your PC and laptop set to 'obtain IP address automatically?

Can you also do another thing.....Open up Command Prompt on the PC or Laptop, or at least one of the ones that has the incorrect details and is Windows.

In command prompt type:

ipconfig /all

Then paste the information in here.

@magunn are you sure you aren't connecting to a neighbour's WiFi?

Exactly, would be interesting to see what the 'Default Gateway' is in ipconfig.

But yeah @licquorice might be good to check if you WIFI details on your PC match those on the back of the BT Hub, that would be wild though.

Not neighbours wifi since no neighbours within 400m

We do have wifi discs  (black ones from BT)

The PC and laptop were set to automatic DHCP when they received the 192.168.10.xxx address.

They are currently set to manual to gain internet access, but I have switched back to automatic to replicate the issue

As you can see the lease on the ip address has not expired and everything works. I'm going to reset the hub to see what happens then.

Yes at the moment it is all fine. I think this is because it still has an ip address assigned bt me previously 192.168.1.49 is not usually in the routers range. Tomorrow when the lease expires is when the issues may start again.

Interstingly i checked the ip address of the discs and one of them was 192.168.10.xxx so this may be the issue. I have reset it and await the outcome  when the leases expire.
