Re: Issue with Garden Room and Ethernet cable

It might be worth checking the socket in the shed to make sure no wires have become disconnected.

Re: Issue with Garden Room and Ethernet cable

@countrypaul I have a patch cable from the wall in the house that goes into the WAN port on the Hub.  Then the black cable comes out of Port 1 in the hub through the wall, along the garden and then into the socket in the garden room. However what I am now lead to believe is there should be a socket on the wall in the house and the garden room cable goes into the back of that and a patch cable goes into the port 1 in the hub, correct?

So which socket in that bank of sockets is connected to the cable?  There can be only the one.  Why he's put that many sockets in is a mystery.

Edit: it's also not shielded cable looking at the plug.

@wyattjnr  What you say  about a socket in the house and a patch cable there is what I (and others?) were expecting, but if wired correctly the way the it is now should work.

Provide an image of how you are connecting your device in the garden room .

@wyattjnr a socket in the house isn't necessary, but it would have been good practice to have provided one.

@wyattjnr in the picture of the sockets at the garden room end you indicated that the one at the top left was the ethernet from the house. Just to be clear are you referring to that single socked faceplate, or do you mean the left most in the set of 4?

Yes the top left single socket is where it comes in from the house

How , and into what , are you connecting the top left single socket  ? ,

Are you trying to utilise the 4 gang Cat6 sockets in some way ? , each of those Cat6 sockets ,  ( if they have actually been wired )  , each socket should be wired to corresponding single Cat6 socket somewhere else within  the property…… a typical residential setting would be the 4 gang Cat6 co located with the router , each socket wired away to 4 separate locations around the house , for example 1st socket wired to a socket to where the TV is located, socket 2  wired to a socket in the home office socket, sockets  3 and 4 wired to sockets in the main bedroom and bedroom 2 .

If you have ( for example ) tried using socket 1 of the 4 gang ( so an Ethernet cable between the single ( top left ) socket and Cat6 slot 1 , your device would need connecting into the corresponding single cat 6 socket , wherever that is located , the other 3 ports of the 4 gang are ‘dead’ in that situation.
